The African Union of Broadcasting is taking part in the 13th Global Video Media Forum and the inaugural meeting of the Global South Media Partnership Mechanism in Xi’an, northwest China.

The events bring together more than 300 experts and media executives from over 40 countries and focus on redefining international media cooperation at a time of geopolitical and technological turbulence.

At the opening on 6 November 2025, China Media Group President Shen Haixiong highlighted the role China intends to play in responding to the needs of Global South countries through broader global-governance initiatives.

AUB is represented in Xi’an by Karima Chelbi, Director of the Content Exchange Centre, on behalf of Director General Grégoire Ndjaka. The Union’s participation reflects its interest in stronger South–South media cooperation and in giving African broadcasters a more active role in international information flows.

The Forum launched two important platforms: a Global South Media Training Centre focused on capacity building and technology transfer, and the Global South Media Partnership Mechanism intended to structure long-term cooperation among participating organisations.

A round table on “The role and responsibility of media in global governance” also examined how media from the Global South can contribute to a more balanced international information order.
